Students who have English ACT and Math ACT scores may use them for English and Math placement
(ACT ENG 20 + and MTH 23+ = student exempt from compass exam. After 3 years a MTH/ENG ACT or Compass MTH/ENG score is no longer valid.)

Math Placement Exam (Compass Exam)
Students may register for MTH 0096 (Pre Algebra) without placement testing.
Math placement exam or appropriate math ACT test score is required before registering for the following courses:
- MTH 1100 Fundamentals of Algebra
- MTH 1105 Intermediate Algebra
- MTH 1110 Finite Mathematics
- MTH 1112 Pre-Calculus Algebra
All higher level math courses require pre-requisite math courses.
English Placement Exam (Compass Exam)
Students may register for ENG 096 (Preparatory English) without the placement exam.
Englist placement exam or appropriate English ACT test score is required before registering
for the following courses:
- English 1100
- English 1101
All other English courses require pre-requisite English courses.
Student ID number and picture ID are required.
Math and English placement is determined by your score on the COMPASS computer based test. Score reports will be printed immediately.
Placement exams are the computer based COMPASS Exam and are given free of charge to Troy Un students. Placement exams are given on a continuous basis during early and regular registration in the Library Technology computer lab. Please call 334-983-6556 ext. 1-286 or stop by the test center in Malone Hall 116B for an appointment at other times. STUDENT I.D. AND PICTURE I.D. IS REQUIRED TO TAKE THE EXAM.
