Mandatory MAPP Testing

All undergraduate students attending Troy University are required to take the Measure of Academic Proficiency and Progress (MAPP) examination prior to their senior year. This is a system-wide requirement. It is mandatory, and faillure to take the MAPP at the appropriate time will result in an academic "hold" being placed on your records.

MAPP Testing is conducted on your home campus.

  • Troy Campus students should visit http://troy.troy.edu/mapp/index.html or contact Ms. Donna Sanders at dsanders@troy.edu
  • Montgomery Campus students should visit http://montgomery.troy.edu/mapp/ or contact Ms. Ashanta Young at anyoung@troy.edu
  • Dothan Campus students may register at http://dothan.troy.edu/forms/mapp.asp
  • eCampus students should visit http://www.troy.edu/ecampus/onlineundergraduateprograms/forms/mappforminstructions.htm or contact Tammy English at tenglish@troy.edu

The Measure of Academic Proficiency and Progress (MAPP) test assesses four core skill areas — critical thinking, reading, writing and mathematics.  The MAPP is composed by Educational Testing Services of Princeton, NJ and is a nationally normed test used by Troy University to assess our General Studies courses.  For more information on the MAPP test, go to www.ets.org/mapp.

Bachelor students are eligible to take the MAPP once 60 credit hours have been obtained.  Associate students may take the exam after reaching 48 credit hours.

Procedural changes for the MAPP are being implemented fall semester 2008.  Any student earning a bachelor’s degree, achieved 70 credits, and has not taken the MAPP will have a registration restriction (hold) placed on their account. The hold will remain until the student registers to take the MAPP.  If the student fails to take the exam at the registered time, the hold will be placed back onto the students account and there will be no further academic activity until the requirement has been fulfilled. This requirement will be strictly enforced.

Any student earning an associate’s degree will have a hold placed on their account at 48 hours and will be lifted upon completion of taking the exam.

If you are an undergraduate student you need to take the MAPP prior to obtaining 70 hours.  If you are a student earning an associate’s degree and have 48 hours of credit or more, you need to take the MAPP prior to graduation.

RESTRICTION HOLDS FOR THE MAPP WILL BEGIN ON JANUARY 6, 2009.

MAPP Exemption: Updated January 2009

Please be advised of the exemption statement that was approved for all campuses:
**Any student who was a junior at Troy University prior to fall 2007 is exempt from taking the MAPP (This exemption applies to all campuses except Troy. The exemption for Troy is: if you were a junior at Troy University prior to fall 1998, you are exempt from taking the MAPP).
