TROY UNIVERSITY
(DOTHAN CAMPUS)
POLICY CHANGES
EFFECTIVE FALL SEMESTER 2007
Following are the significant policies that are changing effective Fall Semester 2007:
A & B SESSIONS WILL BE ONE WEEK LONGER
All 8-week A & B Sessions will now be extended by one week to
9-week sessions. The A & B Sessions will start and stop on the
same days as the 9-week eCampus T-Terms. The 16-week semester
(Session S) will remain 16 weeks. The semester classes (Session
S) will have a one-week fall break. All Session A, B, and S
classes will continue to have a spring break (March 2008),
but the fall break in October 2007 will only be for Session S
classes. Students in Session A classes will continue to meet
their classes.
The only reference to Terms will apply to University College and eCampus on-line course offerings - they have five Terms (Term 1 - 5) for the academic year. As an example, eCampus Term 1 (T1) and Term 2 (T2) coincide exactly with Dothan Campus Sessions A and B dates for Fall 2007. This change in terminology was required to distinguish between Sessions in a Semester and Terms for eCampus on-line courses in order to effectively apply federal financial aid and VA benefits.
MORE WEB-ENHANCED COURSES ARE NOW AVAILABLE
For students who wish the convenience of attending
class only once a week but who still desire a traditional classroom experience
of talking directly with professors and fellow students, consider our
web-enhanced courses. Through a combination of reading and lecture materials
accessible through Blackboard and weekly classroom meetings, these courses
provide both in-class and internet instruction for students who seek the best of
both modes of instruction. You can identify web-enhanced courses by the "W" in
the Section Code (SEC) for the College of Arts and Sciences courses and the
College of Education courses. Sorrell College of Business web-enhanced courses
can be identified by courses meeting only once a week.
CLASS MEETING TIMES ARE CHANGING SLIGHTLY
Meeting times for fall Sessions A and B
(3 hour) classes have changed slightly. The starting times have remained the
same, but the ending times have been reduced by 10 - 15 minutes. For example,
Sessions A and B Monday and Wednesday (MW) and Tuesday and Thursday (TTH) class
ending times have been reduced by 10 minutes and will generally be 5:30pm -
7:40pm and 8:05pm - 10:15pm. Ending times were reduced by 15 minutes for those
3-hour classes in Sessions A and B, meeting only one day a week. For example, a
Monday only class will generally meet from 5:30pm - 10:00pm). The reason for
the reduction in meeting times for Sessions A and B classes was due to the
increase from 8-week Terms to 9-week Sessions, and to keep faculty/student
contact hours for the 9-week Sessions equivalent to the time spent in class
under the old 8-week Terms. Exceptions: Class meeting times for the Full
Semester (16-weeks) did not change since there was no change in the length of
instruction (still 16 weeks). No time changes were made to any 1 hour or 2 hour
classes. Also, for B Sessions (MW, 3-hour classes), the ending times had to be
extended to the previous meeting times (5:30pm - 7:50 pm and 8:05pm - 10:25pm).
The reason for this increase to B Session MW classes, was due to the shortage of
meeting times because of Veteran's Day and Thanksgiving holidays.
ALL BIOLOGY, CHEMISTRY, SCIENCE, & LABS AND MOST MATH CLASSES ARE IN THE
16-WEEK FORMAT
All Biology, Chemistry, Science classes and labs and most Mathematics classes
and labs will be offered in only the 16-week (Full Semester) format. This
change was necessitated to ensure appropriate lab contact time for students.
Exception: Some of the courses at the Fort Rucker Location are still offered in
Sessions A and B (9-week format).
NO MORE DE-REGISTRATIONS (VOIDING) OF STUDENT CLASSES BEGINNING FALL SEMESTER
2007
Effective Fall Semester
2007, Troy University will no longer remove students from
their courses for non-payment. Once you register
by any means (mail, fax, internet, walk-in, etc.), 100% of
tuition and fees are due to the University unless you officially
process a drop or withdrawal form requesting to be removed from
the classes or make the course changes yourself via Web
Express. The last day to drop and withdraw without owing 100%
tuition is posted in the course schedule on pages 6. Payments
are still due when registering; however, if payments are not
received by the required dates, a late payment fee of $50 will
be posted to your account, instead of removing you from all your
classes. Any decision to drop or withdraw from courses once
registered is 100% the student's decision. ONCE YOU HAVE
REGISTERED FOR THE SEAT IN THE CLASS, YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR
PAYING FOR IT, UNLESS YOU PROPERLY DROP OR WITHDRAW BY THE
DEADLINE DATE PUBLISHED IN THE COURSE SCHEDULE.
STUDENTS NOW
HAVE ACCESS TO MORE ON-LINE PROGRAMS AND
COURSES - HOWEVER, SOME ON-LINE POLICIES ARE DIFFERENT
Beginning Fall Semester 2007, students will have access to more
on-lineprograms and courses through the eCampus of Troy
University. Prior to this year, Dothan Campus students have
mainly had access only to on-line programs and courses provided
by the Dothan Campus. Now Dothan Campus students will have
convenient access to all on-line programs and courses offered
across Troy University. To learn more about the eCampus, visit
(http://www.troy.edu/ecampus).
All on-line courses are now being managed by the eCampus of Troy University. While this does provide increased access to on-line programs and courses, it also necessitates a change in some policies and procedures. Please read the following list of issues carefully to be aware of these changes.
eCAMPUS:
EXPANDED ON-LINE COURSE OFFERINGS
Students can now see all
sections of all on-line programs and courses offered through the
eCampus by visiting the eCampus web site at (http://www.troy.edu/ecampus).
eCAMPUS COURSE
SCHEDULE AND SYLLABI ARE AVAILABLE ON-LINE
To view a list of all
on-line courses and preview the course syllabi, go to (http://www.troy.edu/ecampus/schedule/index.html).
Students who can register through Web Express can also register for on-line courses offered through the eCampus using Web Express. In Web Express you must select 07/T1 (formerly identified in Dothan as A Term classes) or 07/T2 (formerly identified in Dothan as B Term classes) and then input the appropriate class information for the class you desire. Then complete the appropriate steps for registering. You may also perform class searches via Web Express for eCampus on-line classes. To do so, select class search in Web Express, then 07/T1 or 07/T2 for the desired term, and then input the desired class search information. Finally, you must select "ECAMP" in the location block to obtain eCampus on-line classes before clicking on the submit button for your search.
SAME STUDENT
SERVICES FOR eCAMPUS STUDENTS
Students in the Wiregrass area can still receive assistance
face-to-face, via telephone or E-mail from the Distance Learning
Center on the Dothan Campus. The Distance Learning Center is
located in the Library/Technology Building on the first floor in
Room 131 or 132. The phone number is (334)-983-6556, ext. 1326.
DIFFERENT
TUITION RATES FOR eCAMPUS
The tuition rate for
eCampus (on-line) courses is now different than that of
on-campus courses. Beginning Fall 2007, tuition for
undergraduate on-line courses will be $185 per credit hour.
Tuition for graduate on-line courses will be $315 per credit
hour EXCEPT for MBA courses, which will be $440 per credit
hour. Also, on-line courses are priced based on per-credit-hour
rate. These hours are not
considered in calculating the full-time flat-rate tuition charge
(12-16 hours). Only those courses taken on Troy University's
Alabama campuses by other delivery methods will be used when
calculating the flat-rate.
DIFFERENT
eCAMPUS REGISTRATION DATES
Prior to the Fall Semester 2007, Dothan Campus students have
been able to register for both A and B Sessions on-line courses
at the beginning of the semester. Now, students will be able to
register for T-1 Term on-line courses in the middle of July. As
the middle of the semester approaches, students will then be
able to log on Web Express and register for T-2 Term on-line
courses. Students will not be able
to register for Term One (T-1) On-Line Courses until July 16,
2007.
DIFFERENT
eCAMPUS BOOKSTORE
The eCampus provides a Virtual Bookstore through which all books
for on-line courses should be ordered. Instructions on how to
order through the Virtual Bookstore are at (http://direct.mbsbooks.com/tsu.htm).
Students receiving federal financial aid may use book vouchers
to purchase textbooks through the Virtual Bookstore. NOTE: If
you choose to purchase books through the Dothan Campus
bookstore, first view the on-line course syllabi at (http://www.troy.edu/ecampus/schedule/index.html)
and make sure that you are buying the correct textbook. The
textbook requirements for Dothan Campus courses and eCampus
courses may differ. It is students' responsibility to make sure
that they are purchasing the correct text book. Pay close
attention to the ISBN number identified in your on-line course
syllabi.
DIFFERENT TEST
PROCTOR APPROVAL PROCESS FOR eCAMPUS
The eCampus maintains a database of approved test proctors.
Even if you have had a proctor approved by the Dothan Campus,
all students taking on-line courses must submit a new Proctor
Form every term. The instructions and form are located at (http://www.troy.edu/ecampus/onlineundergraduateprograms/forms/proctorforminstructions.htm).
FINANCIAL AID
AND VA INFORMATION FOR STUDENTS TAKING ECAMPUS COURSES
Financial aid awards are
divided into either two or four disbursements based upon your
home location; the Dothan Campus is semester-based (two
disbursements) while eCampus, is term-based (four
disbursements). You can check your awarded disbursement pattern
on your Trojan Web Express Award Status by year or by calling
the Financial Aid Call Center (800) 414-5756. You may have your
disbursement pattern changed by writing the T-Terms (aid divided
into four disbursements) or Semesters (aid divided into two
disbursements) you will attend on the award letter when
accepting and returning it to the Financial Aid Office. Once you
accept your award for the year, you may not change the
disbursement pattern until next year.
If you are awarded on semesters, the system is only looking for semester credits to count for your financial aid to disburse. If you are awarded on semesters and take a course on T-Terms (T1, T2, etc) in addition to semester courses, the system will not count the T-Term (T1, T2, etc) credit hours towards your eligibility for the disbursement. If the T-Term course credits are needed in order to be either full or half time, students should contact the call center (800) 414-5756 or their financial aid counselor to request that we manually adjust the criteria to include the T-Term courses. Review the FAQ Section of the Financial Aid website if you mix terms and semesters/sessions.
Please note that T-Terms (i.e. T1, T2) are not the same as Sessions A and B. T-Terms are stand alone terms and not part of a Semester, whereas Sessions A and B are part of a Semester (these are federally required distinctions). For example, even if you register for T-Term 1 and T-Term 2 classes at the same time, the aid for T-2 Term cannot be disbursed until after the census day (the day after the last day to drop and add without owing full tuition). On the other hand, if you register for Sessions A and/or B, aid will disburse after the census day (the day after the last day to drop and add without owing full tuition) for the semester.
If you receive federal VA education benefits and you take any eCampus (on-line) courses, the eCampus VA Counselor will certify eCampus courses. Additionally, you must submit a transient form and Veterans Education Certification Request Form. However, if you take a combination of courses offered by the Dothan Campus and by eCampus, you will have two certifications sent to the VA (one for eCampus and one for the Dothan Campus). In addition, you must submit a transient form and Veterans Education Certification Request Form to the eCampus VA Counselor and just the Veterans Education Certification Request Form to the Dothan Campus VA office. These procedures are applicable anytime you take courses at a Troy location that is not your home location. Contact the Financial Aid and VA offices for more information.
DIFFERENT TERMINOLOGY CLARIFIED - The eCampus is on a five term academic calendar. The start and stop dates for the eCampus terms are the same as for the Dothan Campus sessions. The table below illustrates the usage of the session names:
