College of Education Strategic Plan

VISION STATEMENT 

The vision of the College of Education is to be noted nationally and internationally as a premier professional college of education. To be viewed as a college that values leadership and excellence in the preparation of individuals in educational and professional services; that values innovations in best practices and possesses strong collaborative relationships with the professionals and communities we serve. And overall, one that embraces a philosophy of student-centeredness, supported by an environment that is faculty friendly and whereby programs produce graduates who are fully prepared to compete in both a domestic and global marketplace. 

COLLEGE OF EDUCATION MISSION STATEMENT

As a nationally and internationally recognized professional college, the Troy University College of Education believes that preparing individuals for school and non-school settings is our highest priority and our greatest responsibility. The College is dedicated to developing educators, counselors, administrators, and other professionals who are lifelong learners, who are innovative, informed, and reflective decision makers and who are effectively trained to achieve the goals, competencies and skills needed to meet the responsibilities of a global society. Our efforts support the three University tenets of teaching effectiveness, scholarly activity and service in the following ways:

1.          the College exists to prepare educational and human service professionals for various roles in school and non-school settings;

2.           faculty within the unit conduct basic and applied research in the areas of teaching and learning, human growth and development, counseling and educational policy, and;

3.            the College provides service at the local, state, regional, national and international levels as well as service for the good of the institution.

GOALS

Goal 1       Establish and expand strong and effective leadership with the constituencies we serve

Objective 1A:              Increase involvement in addressing critical local, state, national and global needs that also enrich the educational experience offered by the College.

Objective 1B:              Develop initiatives to secure local, state, national resources for the preparation of teachers and professional services specialists.

Objective 1C:              Increase the number of faculty and administrators serving on local, state, national committees.

Objective 1D:              Promote faculty leadership as editors in academic journals and publications.

Objective 1E:              Identify and respond to the needs of schools, business and community partners.

Objective 1F:              Establish one center or institute within the College    

Goal 2       Strengthen Internationalization opportunities for students, faculty and staff                       

Objective 2A:              Expand the number of faculty and students engaged in study abroad programs to meet the University strategic objective of 5 programs per year.

Objective 2B:              Establish 10 curriculum partnerships with universities abroad.

Objective 2C:              Increase the number of visiting professor and scholars in the College to three per year. 

Goal 3       Establish and expand high quality programs within the College 

Objective 3A:              Recruit, retain and support a strong and diverse faculty.

Objective 3B:              Recruit and retain an able and diverse student population of appropriate size in relation to the number of full time faculty available in the College.

Objective 3C:              Continue to update and explore innovations in instructional content and delivery through the use of technology.

Objective 3D:              Restructure instructional programs to meet the emerging needs of the disciplines and the professional communities.

Objective 3E:              Provide opportunities for practicing professionals to update and expand their knowledge, skills and attitudes through traditional and non-traditional programs, workshops and distance learning.

Objective 3F:              Ensure that students meet and surpass external disciplinary standards.

Objective 3G:              Ensure that graduates acquire the skills to successfully work and compete in professional environments
