Possible Speech Topics

Your speech must be 3-5 minutes in length. You may use one page of notes; however, you cannot read a prepared speech. The outline of the speech will be due one week prior to the speech delivery. See your syllabus for details.

  1. Compulsory attendance for all children (K-12).
  2. Select Dewey, Bruner, Piaget, Skinner, Horace Mann, Pestalozzi, or Froebel and discuss his contributions to education.
  3. Consider the grade level in which you plan to teach. What are the general characteristics of children at this grade level?
  4. What is the purpose of public education in the United States?
  5. Describe how the perspectives on treating exceptional individuals have changed over the years.
  6. How have legislation and court decisions influenced special education programs?
  7. Explain why collaborative efforts of both regular and special education should be utilized.
