Professional Laboratory Experiences
What are Professional Laboratory Experiences?
Professional Laboratory Experiences (PLE) include direct and simulated activities which illustrate and demonstrate principles of practice and involve the application and testing of teaching and learning theory. PLE may include observation and situation analysis, simulation packages, and microteaching, as well as beginning Professional Development School (PDS) experiences on-site with children and youth.
How many hours of Professional Laboratory Experiences are required prior to internship?
Each student must have on record in the Office of Teacher Education Program a minimum of 120 clock hours of professional laboratory experiences before he or she can be assigned an internship position. These clock hours are verified no later than the middle of the term immediately preceding the internship semester. Interns are not permitted to begin their internship until the requirements are complete, the verifications are turned in to the Professional Internship Office.
