Intent to Graduate

Intent to Graduate form is the official notice to the Registrar’s Office that a student plans to complete his/her degree requirements within a specified term. Business and Arts and Sciences students must file this form a full term prior to the graduation term; because of Internship, it is RECOMMENDED that education students must file their Intent to Graduate at least two terms prior to their expected completion term.  Strict deadlines have been established for filing the Intent to Graduate.  Please refer to the University Calendar for exact deadline dates. 

Procedures for Filing an Intent to Graduate 
  • Undergraduate students you may request the Intent to Graduate form from Admissions and Records, Malone Hall, Room 119. Graduate students may request the Intent to Graduate form from Graduate Admissions, Malone Hall, Room 111.
  • Fill out BOTH pages to the Intent to Graduate legibly and completely. Information from this form will be used for ordering diplomas and in preparation of the commencement program.
  • Take the form to the Financial Affairs Office, 118 Malone Hall and pay the $60 graduation fee.
  • Undergraduate students should return the form that has been stamped Paid back to the Records Office for processing. Graduate students should return the form to the Graduate Office, 111 Malone Hall, for processing.

Processing the Intent to Graduate Form

After the Intent to Graduate form is completed and returned to the Records Office/ Graduate Office, the graduation process begins.  The student's academic file is audited to determine which degree requirements have been met and which ones are still incomplete.  Once the academic audit is complete, the student receives a final clearance letter with a Final Evaluation with the remaining requirements needed (if any) highlighted. The highlighted courses are the courses pending completion for your graduation. Depending on what term you have filed for, this process usually takes at least 2 weeks.


FAQ's

Q:  May I file my intent to graduate online?

A:  No.  Because the form is required in triplicate, it is not possible to process this form electronically. 

Q:  What if I fail to meet the deadline for filing my Intent to Graduate form?

A:  Students only have one deadline to file their intent to graduate. Pay attention to the schedule.

Q:  What if I miss the deadline?

A:   If you miss the deadline, you are not able to file for that particular semester and you will be required to file for the next semester.

Q:  If I file an Intent to Graduate form and pay my $60 but cannot complete my degree within the specified term, do I have to re-file and pay an additional $60?

A:  Yes, if you are unable to complete your degree within the semester that you have indicated completion, you will have to re-file your Intent to Graduate and pay the $60.00 fee again.

Q:  What if I disagree with the requirements needed for graduation as listed on the final clearance?

A: Undergraduate students should contact the Registrar immediately at 334.983.6556, ext. 1333 and . Graduate students should contact the Director of Graduate Admissions & Records immediately at 334.983.6556, ext. 1230.
