Historical Note:  Nell B. Hodges grew up in Grimes, AL.  In the mid-1980s, she wrote and published two short memoirs about her life and family, particularly telling emblematic stories about family members and community occurrences in the middle decades of the Twentieth Century.

Scope/Content:  Collection contains 2 scanned published memoirs:  "Another Time, Another Place," and "Cotton Pickin' Memories."  Ms. Hodges self-published these memoirs of her family and growing up in Grimes, AL, in the 1980s for her family's benefit.

Processing Note:  The Archives of Wiregrass History and Culture scanned these pamphlets in PDF format in March 2005.

Provenance:  Ms. Julia Smith, former Director of the Library at Troy University Dothan Campus, is the author’s niece.  With the concurrence of the Hodges family, she gave these to the AWHC.  Mr. Harold Hodges, Jr., is the executor of Ms. Hodges estate and signed the donor agreement.
