Collection Size   One scrapbook + 9 file folders

Biographical Sketch   H. T. (Harvey Thomas) Scarborough was a prominent citizen of Dothan, AL.  He worked a full career at Porter Hardware Co., was so active in the Lafayette St. Methodist Church that his Men's Sunday School Class named itself for him, and became a resource for those studying local history. 

Scope / Content     Collection consists of hard- and digitized copies of a scrapbook presented to Scarborough in 1958 by his Sunday school class, transcription of a 4-page memoir of Porter Hardware Co. Scarborough penned in 1979, a short autobiography, and a letter acknowledging receipt of this autobiography by the Alabama Department of Archives and History in 1988.  Also contains audiotapes of Mr. Scarborough talking about the history of his Bible class and church, Bible class yearbook, and photographs.

Provenance     Original materials given to donor, Mrs. Rogers, by HTS in ca. 1984-85 or collected by her after 1985.

Associated material    William Holman conducted an oral history recording of Scarborough in 1987 and Wendell Stepp did the same during the 1980s.  Both interviews are in the Dothan Landmarks Foundation, Inc. Collection.
