NARRATOR: Harland F. Mayo
Biography: Mr. Harland Mayo, at the time of this oral history interview, has retired from both the military and the work force. He retired from the army in Fort Rucker, Alabama in 1987, and retired from Wal-Mart in Canton, Georgia last year. Mr. Mayo has a wife and five children. He was born in Ponca City, Oklahoma where he attended school and worked as a farmhand for half of his childhood. He finished high school and worked as a farmhand in Texas. He enlisted into the military, after graduation, in Texas. Mr. Mayo joined the army in 1952 and served in both the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He viewed his time spent in the military as adventurous and as a learning experience. He feels that if he had the chance to do it over again, he would.
