Biographical Sketch: John Hubbard was an early pioneer in commercial radio in the Wiregrass. He was a founding owner of WHGT in Troy (1931) and WAGF in Dothan. He attended Univ. of Alabama, 1931-35, and received a degree in electrical engineering. Exempted from the draft in WW2 because he was a married father, Hubbard operated station WAGF as an "essential War Industry" as designated by the local draft board. Hubbard sold his interest in the station in ca. 1954, was in business as Radio Communications Service, 1954-ca. 1978-80, then as Radio Dispatch Company until his retirement.
Scope / Content: Collection contains one ca 2000 photograph of Mr. Hubbard, 1.5 hours of taped interview conducted on 2-17-2003, and three reports; one by Hubbard on the radio station, an extensive autobiography of Hubbard and family, and an article written about Hubbard for the Alabama Alumni Magazine.
