Organizational Sketch:  The following information was taken from the SACRAO website on September 5, 2003.  <http://www.sacrao.org/sacrao/index.asp>

SACRAO is a professional non-profit organization whose purposes are:  to provide for the dissemination of information and the interchange of ideas or problems of common interest to contribute to the advancement of higher education in its fullest and broadest implication to foster a friendly spirit of unity and cooperation among its members to function as a unifying and coordinating agency among the separate state organizations of admissions officers and registrars.

SACRAO began in 1947 in conjunction with the annual meeting of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) and in 1972 began meeting as a distinct entity.  SACRAO was incorporated in September, 1986, as a non-profit organization.  Membership for the 2002-2003 fiscal year included 3,050 individuals, representing 607 colleges and universities in the 13-state region.

Scope / Content Note:  Collection consists of reports, minutes, agendas, programs, and correspondence of the annual business meeting mixed with the minutes of the Executive Committee, an arrangement that reflects how SACRAO's organizational structure evolved.  Also included are office files, information concerning stsnding and ad hoc committees, participant notebooks for MODS and MOSIS, photographs, and a variety of internal membership publications.

Organized into 7 Series: 

1. Annual Meeting and Executive Committee Minutes, Reports, Etc.:  Agendas, programs, reports, minutes, correspondence regarding the annual membership meeting and the various meetings of the Executive Committee.  Arranged chronologically.

2. Publications:  Includes SACRAO membership directories, the Journal, newsletters produced by the national organization, and newsletters published by state affiliates.  Arranged chronologically by publication title.

3. Committee Information:  Correspondence, minutes, reports, and research materials produced by or used by committees other than the Executive Committee.  Arranged alphabetically by committee name.

4. Central Files:  Subject files compiles by the President and other officers to document the administration of the organization.  Arranged alphabetically by topic.

5. MODS & MOSIS:  MODS developed in 1982 as a distinct subunit of SACRAO to expand knowledge of computer applications in admissions. MOSIS replaced MODS as a formally-affiliated group in 1987 to confer on computer applications. Annual conference planning manuals, reports, correspondence, and programs.  Arranged chronologically.

6. Photographs:  Still and moving images captured by various members, usually as a consequence of an annual meeting or for a slide presentation or commemoration.

7. Financial Documents:  Records of income and expenditures that document the Treasurer's Reports. Does NOT contain Treasurer's Reports; those appear in Series 1 as part of the annual meeting minutes.

Provenance Note:  Over the years various SACRAO officers have collected the organization's archives, though they did not use a single system for doing so.   Collection received in the following accessions:
