Historical Sketch: Guy Rolen was born July 11, 1882 in Houston County, Taylor, Alabama. As a young man, he found a job as a cotton gin operator. He married Ida Caroline Kingry on December 3, 1905 and had six children; Chester, Flossie Betty, Willie Pearl, Etta, Guy Ewell and Maurice. Eventually he moved to Dothan, Alabama and worked for the Dothan Oil Company until he retired in 1959. Guy Rolen was a member of the Mt. Pleasant Primitive Baptist Church. He died on December 12, 1969. His son Guy owned and operated the Rolen Bakery in Dothan Alabama and his grand daughter, Dr. Cynthia Lumpkin, is an Associate Professor at Troy University—Dothan Campus.
Scope/Content: Land deeds, warranty deeds, homestead certificates that track land transfers in Geneva County (land became part of Houston Co. after 1903), 1888 to 1917. Land surveyed as part of Sections 8 and 9, Township 2, Range 26, in Alabama.
Also contains certificate of ownership in Modern Order of Praetorians, dated 1917.
Provenance: Guy Rolen was Dr. Cynthia Lumpkin's Grandfather. Dr. Lumpkin retired from Troy University--Dothan Campus in 2005.
