DOTHAN – Voters in Dothan have elected a
TROY employee to the City Commission. Keith Seagle, Dothan Campus
director of Counseling and Career Services, will represent District 6
for the next four years.
“It is a humbling experience to think
about all of the people who got out and worked and supported me,” Seagle
reflected, “and now to think that I will be working for all of these
good people in the district.”
Seagle beat out incumbent Phillip Tidwell
with 1,013 votes to Tidwell’s 942 votes. During his term in office,
Seagle plans to encourage his constituents to become more active in city
government.
“My plan is to have our community more
involved in moving Dothan forward,” Seagle said. “There are a lot of
good people willing to sacrifice for a better future for our children,
and we need them to feel involved and part of the process.”
Seagle threw his hat into the ring just
30 days before the election. Managing his own campaign, he had to
quickly learn to write and place his own advertisements and to organize
volunteers.
“The best part of campaigning was getting
out and meeting people,” Seagle said. “The door-to-door part can be
trying in 100 degree heat, but it was very encouraging and uplifting to
meet the people one-on-one.”
Seagle is a graduate of Troy University,
where he earned a master’s degree in counseling and psychology. The Troy
University Alumni Association recognized Seagle as Dothan Campus Alumni
of the Year in 2000. He also holds a bachelor’s in psychology from the
University of South Alabama.
Seagle has been employed at the Dothan
Campus for 10 years. During that time, he has been actively involved in
the United Way, the Alzheimer’s Walk, the March of Dimes and a number of
other community organizations. He currently serves as president of the
Ed Burkhalter Chapter of the Military Officers Association of America.
“One of the things I’ve always
appreciated about working for TROY is that the University encourages its
employees to be active in the community,” Seagle said. “Now I am blessed
to be able to take this TROY spirit of service to another level.” |
