DOTHAN – Troy University will provide the location
for this year’s March of Dimes WalkAmerica 2007 event in Dothan. The walk is
scheduled for Saturday, April 28 at 8 a.m. at the Harrison Walking Trail, which
is located on the Dothan Campus. This year,
Troy University’s TEAM DOTHAN is looking to collect “a mile of
dimes” to help fight prematurity, according to Team Captain
Chris Bryant. The leading cause of newborn death in the United
States, premature birth affects everyone and endangers the lives
of more than half a million babies every year.
“I want to encourage anyone
interested in helping us out to start donating their dimes and
all their change to the worthwhile cause of giving every baby a
fighting chance,” Bryant said. “A mile of dimes is approximately
89,760 dimes or 1,796 rolls. We have a long way to go in such a
short time, so please help if you can.”
TEAM DOTHAN will be accepting
donations up until the event, according to Mary Grant, team
co-captain. The public is also invited to join in the walk.
“Everyone that wants to be a part
of our team, whether they are part of Troy University or not, is
invited to become a TEAM DOTHAN member,” Grant said. “Join us as
we help the March of Dimes raise funds to support cutting-edge
research and innovative programs that save babies’ lives.”
