DOTHAN - Troy University Assistant
Professor Sheila Bennett has been
selected as a MarcoPolo Field
Trainer of the Year. Bennett, who
teaches in the College of Education
on the Dothan Campus, is one of
three recipients nationwide.
The award, which
is presented annually by the MCI
Foundation, recognizes Bennett’s
efforts to bring the MarcoPolo
Program to other educators. Through
the Troy University College of
Education, Bennett trains area K-12
teachers on MarcoPolo: Internet
Content for the Classroom. She
provides three-hour sessions at no
charge.
The program,
which is presented by a consortium
of premier national education
organizations and state education
agencies, provides high quality
standards-based Internet content and
professional development to teachers
and students across the country.
Bennett has
served as an instructor on the
Dothan Campus for 14 years. She
teaches undergraduate psychology and
educational technology classes.

Campus Vice Chancellor Bob Willis
said Bennett works tirelessly to
help other educators and future
educators become the best they can
be in the classroom.
“We are proud
that Ms. Bennett’s dedication to
education is receiving national
attention,” Willis said. “The
contributions she makes both at Troy
University and within the community
are immeasurable.”
Bennett is a
licensed mental health professional
with over 20 years of community
mental health counseling experience.
She received a bachelor’s degree in
psychology from Auburn University
and a master’s in psychology from
the University of Alabama at
Birmingham. Bennett also completed
additional graduate work in the area
of educational technology.
