DOTHAN – Find out
how to protect yourself from identity theft. The Troy University
Continuing Education Center will present a free identity theft
seminar Monday, May 8, as part of its Community Awareness Program.
Houston County
Sheriff Lamar Glover will be the featured speaker at the seminar,
which begins at 5:30 p.m. in Sony Hall on the Dothan Campus. Glover
will share tips on safeguarding credit. He will also provide
information about some of the latest scams showing up in the
Wiregrass.
“Identity theft is
up and down the scale from young to old,” Glover said. “Anyone with
a credit card is a target.”
Last year, there
were 2,675 reports of identity theft in Alabama, according to the
Federal Trade Commission. Glover said the number of cases reported
each year in Houston County is relatively low, but the problem is
growing.
