DOTHAN – Troy University
Chancellor Jack Hawkins, Jr. has
announced the appointment of Dr.
Robin Bynum as associate dean of
the Troy University College of
Education. In this capacity, Dr.
Bynum will lead the College of
Education on the Dothan Campus.
A
TROY employee since 1993, Dr.
Bynum most recently served as
associate professor of
Educational Leadership and chair
of Curriculum and Teaching at
the Troy Campus. She has also
acted as associate director of
the Wiregrass Writing Project
and the Southeast Alabama
Regional Inservice Center at
Troy University.
Dr.
Lance Tatum, interim dean of the
Troy University College of
Education, said Dr. Bynum’s
leadership skills and experience
will allow her to lead the
program in wonderful new
directions.
“She
is going to be a tremendous
asset to not only the Dothan
Campus, but also to the
surrounding communities,” Dr.
Tatum said. “She has a wealth of
past experiences in education
and educational leadership that
will serve the College of
Education well.”
A
former employee of Dothan City
Schools, Dr. Bynum spent 15
years teaching - before serving
as director of Elementary
Curriculum Services, principal
of Southside Elementary and
assistant principal at
Cloverdale Elementary School.
“I
started off as a kindergarten
teacher,” Dr. Bynum said, “and I
could see the impact I was
making. Then I decided to go
into administration to make a
broader impact.”
In
her new role as associate dean,
Dr. Bynum
believes she will
have the opportunity to make her
greatest contribution yet. She
will be working with pre-service
and in-service teachers who will
go on to instruct children in
school districts throughout the
region and the country.

Bob Willis is pleased to welcome
Dr. Bynum to the faculty at the
Dothan Campus.

Bynum’s dedication to education
and her experience in the local
school system make her a
tremendous asset to the College
of Education,” Willis said. “Our
students will benefit greatly
from her knowledge.”
Dr.
Bynum obtained master’s level
certification in administration
and principalship at the Dothan
Campus. She also holds
bachelor’s and master’s degrees
in early childhood education
from Tuskegee University’s
Tuskegee Institute and a
doctorate in educational
leadership from the University
of Sarasota.
Active in both professional and
community organizations, Dr.
Bynum is past president of the
Alabama Council of Teachers of
English and a representative of
the Alabama Association of
Colleges for Teacher Education.
She
is a member of the Board of
Directors for the Alabama
Council of Teachers of English
and the Southeast Alabama Sickle
Cell Association. She is also a
former member of the Board of
Directors of the Alabama Staff
Development Council.
Dr.
Bynum is married to Kenneth
Bynum, principal at Pike County
Elementary School in Brundidge.
She has a daughter,
step-daughter and three
grandchildren.
Dr.
Bynum plans to be a hands-on
administrator. She will teach
classes on the Dothan Campus.
“I
started off as a teacher, and
I’ll always be a teacher,” Dr.
Bynum said. “The only thing that
has changed over the years is
who I am teaching.”
