Dothan – The Troy University Alumni Association – Dothan Chapter awarded more than $10,000 in scholarships during a recent ceremony at the Dothan Campus. Six students received awards of $1,500. For the first time, the Alumni Association also presented scholarships in the amount of $750 to two part-time students. 

This year’s recipients include Megan Cozart of Dothan, Teresa Duppstadt of Enterprise, Amy Farver of Daleville, Audra Gabrielson of Dothan, Ashlee Henderson of Ozark, Kristina Hiestand of Enterprise, Kimberly Killingsworth of Dothan and Lisa Ann Still of Blakely, Ga.

“I’m grateful to receive the scholarship,” said marketing major Amy Farver. “I hope someday to be able to help another student the way the Alumni Association has helped me.”

Alumni Association President Gayla White and Scholarship Committee Chairperson Tara L. Brackin presented the awards.

“We had people who had 3.7, 3.9 and 4.0 grade point averages,” Brackin said. “We had many excellent candidates.”  

Criminal Justice major Kristina Hiestand is thankful for far more than the tuition assistance.

“It’s a wonderful feeling to be recognized for a job well done,” Hiestand said. “I’m extremely grateful for this opportunity.”

The majority of the funding for the scholarships is raised through the Troy University Alumni Association – Dothan Chapter Jackson Thornton Invitational Golf Tournament presented by CenturyTel. This year’s tournament is schedule for Thursday, September 28 at Highland Oaks in Dothan.

Jackson Thornton is the lead corporate sponsor for the tournament.
