The Troy University Alumni Association – Dothan Chapter
presented a total of more than 10-thousand dollars in
scholarships to seven deserving students during a recent
ceremony on the Dothan Campus. The Alumni Association
Scholarship Committee chose the recipients of the $1,500
awards based on academic achievement, leadership skills
and community and school involvement.
This
year’s recipients include Rhonda Fitch of Enterprise,
Ashlee Henderson of Echo, Angela Nelson Lingo of
Abbeville, Terri Money of Headland, Julie Morris of
Dothan and Pamela Scott of Eufaula. Aaron Wade of
Enterprise received special recognition as the Alumni
Association CenturyTel Scholarship winner.
“I’m
just really excited and thankful to the Alumni
Association for considering me worthy of this,” said
recipient Rhonda Fitch.
Alumni
Association President Doug Wynn said the scholarships
are aimed at helping the students become productive
citizens who contribute to the community. “This is the
proudest day of the year for the Alumni Association,”
remarked Wynn. “I’ve never felt so good about giving
away so much money.”
Suzanne
Davis, of Jackson Thornton, was on-hand to help present
the awards. Jackson Thornton is the lead corporate
sponsor of the Troy University Alumni Association –
Dothan Chapter Jackson Thornton Invitational Golf
Tournament, which helps raise the majority of the
funding for the scholarships. This year’s golf
tournament will be held September 29 at Highland Oaks.
