Troy University Chancellor Dr. Jack Hawkins, Jr. removed the “interim” word from TROY-Dothan’s top position while naming Dr. Barbara Alford, president of the Dothan Campus during the institution’s annual faculty/staff convocation held Friday in Sony Hall. “Dr. Alford has served this University with great leadership and vision. It is only fitting that the interim word be removed from her position before her retirement in December,” Dr. Hawkins said before the more than 100 faculty and staff in attendance. Alford, a 25-year veteran of secondary, post-secondary and higher education in Alabama, has been with TROY for more than 11-years serving in various positions from vice-president of special programs to executive vice-president. In August 2002, Chancellor Hawkins named Alford interim president. She replaced Dr. Michael Malone, who left to take a job as executive director of the Alabama Commission on Higher Education. Alford is the fourth president since the University became separately accredited in 1985. She has announced plans to retire in December 2004. |
