College of Arts & Sciences

The College of Arts & Sciences offers a variety of degree programs in the liberal arts. The College emphasizes the objectives of a liberal arts education, the development of ethical and aesthetic awareness, and the enhancement of ways in which the liberal arts are taught.    

The Bachelor of Arts degree requires twelve hours of a foreign language. Contact the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences for information on foreign language credit.  

For all degrees, students are also directed to consult the applicable graduation requirements listed in the “Academic Affairs” section.

To assure computer competency in all majors that do not require CIS 2243 Computer Concepts and Applications, students in the following majors must complete a computer competency exam administered through the College of Arts and Sciences: biology, history, social science, and psychology. The cost of the competency exam is $15.00, and students must correctly demonstrate 70% of the skills on the exam in order to pass. Students may retake the exam once. Any student not passing the second attempt must take CIS 2243. This requirement must be completed prior to filing an intent to graduate.

BIOLOGICAL SCIENCE (BIO)  

TSUD offers four majors and one minor in biological science.  Non-teaching degrees may be earned in biology, expanded biology, and preprofessional biology.  A teaching degree may be earned in biology education (grades 6-12).

• A broad general knowledge base in the life sciences.

CRIMINAL JUSTICE (CJ)  

TSUD offers a major and a minor in criminal justice.  Criminal justice majors and minors are for non-teaching degrees only.  A student may major or minor in only one area of criminal justice.

Expected Student Outcomes  

Upon completion of the program, all criminal justice majors will have:  

• An understanding of police procedures and a knowledge of history in criminal justice and criminal justice theories.  
• An operational knowledge of the goals associated with corrections and a knowledge of correctional systems, the history of corrections, and corrections theories.  
• An understanding of the judicial process and the liability associated with a career in criminal justice.
